Dear students

 

APPLYING FOR A PLACE IN UNIVERSITY RESIDENCES – SESSION 2013/14

 

Cardiff University is able to offer its students a wide range of residences. Information in respect of all of our residences and details on how to apply for a place in University residences online can be found via the link: http://sims.cardiff.ac.uk

 

UNDERGRADUATES

 

All undergraduates who apply during the normal UCAS admissions cycle, i.e. come to Cardiff as a firm or insurance applicant are guaranteed a single occupancy place in University residences during their first year of study. To ensure you are guaranteed a room you must:

• Submit your online application by the deadline given below

• Receive/accept an unconditional offer to study by Friday 30 August 2013

• Accept your online Offer of Residence within 7 days of your room being allocated

• Arrive and collect your room key within the dates/times specified in the Arrival Information (http://www.cf.ac.uk/arrivalinformation)

 

If your online application is received after the deadline dates detailed below or you receive/accept an unconditional offer to study after Friday 30 August 2013, we will do our best to accommodate you and your application will be processed on a first come first served basis.

 

Firm Applicants

If you demonstrate your commitment to coming to Cardiff by accepting our offer of a place to study here on a firm basis, you can apply for University residences online now. Deadline for submitting your online application is 5pm Friday 9 August 2013.

 

Insurance Applicants

If you are accepting your offer to study on an insurance basis you will need to apply for University residences online, after publication of the A-level results, when you have a confirmed place to study at Cardiff University. 

Deadline for submitting your online application is 5pm Friday 30 August 2013.

 

Clearing/RPA/Late Applicants

We allocate students who apply for a place to study outside of the normal UCAS admissions cycle, i.e. Clearing/Late applicants, a place in University residences on a first-come first-served basis and over the last 2 years have been able to accommodate the vast majority of students who applied.

 

Once you have accepted your offer to study on a firm basis you can apply for University residences online. The sooner you apply for a place in University residences, the more likely it is that we will be able to offer you a place. We will start processing applications no later than week commencing 2 September 2013.

 

If we are unable to assist you in finding accommodation before your arrival in Cardiff, temporary hotel accommodation will be made available (for a limited period during September/October) for which a nominal charge will be made. As a guide the charge for session 2012/2013 was £15 per night.

 

ERASMUS/EXCHANGE

 

Full Session

The Residences Office guarantees an offer of a single occupancy place in University residences to visiting European students who are studying at Cardiff University for the full academic year. Complete your online application now.

 

To ensure you are guaranteed a room you must:

• Submit your online application by 5pm Friday 9 August 2013

• Receive/accept an unconditional offer to study by Friday 30 August 2013

• Accept your online Offer of Residence within 7 days of your room being allocated

• Arrive and collect your room key within the dates/times specified in the Arrival Information (http://www.cf.ac.uk/arrivalinformation)

 

Part Session students (Autumn or Spring Semester only)

Unfortunately, the Residences Office cannot guarantee part session students a place in University residences.

• Students arriving in September

We are unlikely to know if we can offer you a place in University residences until late September.  You will receive further information regarding your arrival in Cardiff from the International Office (http://www.cf.ac.uk/for/prospective/inter/index.html).

• Students arriving for Spring Semester

We are more likely to be able to offer you a place in University residences as vacancies generally become available. You should contact the Residences Office (http://www.cf.ac.uk/for/prospective/residences/contactus/contact-us.html) prior to your arrival in Cardiff to check availability.

 

OVERSEAS/EU POSTGRADUATES

 

Arriving in September

All overseas/EU postgraduate students are guaranteed a single occupancy place in University residences. To guarantee your place in University residences you must:

• Submit your online application and make the pre-payment by 5pm Friday 30 August 2013

• Receive an unconditional offer to study by Friday 6 September 2013

• Accept your online Offer of Residence within 7 days of your room being allocated

• Arrive and collect your room key within the dates/times specified in the Arrival Information (http://www.cf.ac.uk/arrivalinformation)

 

If your online application is received after 5pm Friday 30 August 2013 or you receive/accept an unconditional offer to study after Friday 6 September 2013, we will do our best to accommodate you and your application will be processed on a first come first served basis

 

Arriving after September

Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee a place in University residences to students arriving during the academic year. You will need to contact the Residences Office (http://www.cf.ac.uk/for/prospective/residences/contactus/contact-us.html) to check availability.

 

UK POSTGRADUATES

 

Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee UK postgraduates a place in University residences, if places are available we will publish details on our Postgraduate web pages (http://www.cf.ac.uk/for/prospective/residences/postgraduate/guarantee/guarantee.html).

 

However, Cardiff University organises a House Hunting Event for all new postgraduate students who will be looking for shared rented accommodation for September.
